Typical Millennial
Before the pandemic, I was your typical millennial. If I wanted tacos, I went to the store for tortillas. If I needed rolls, I took a drive to the local supermarket to get them. If I wanted fries….well, you get the idea.
Then, everything happened, and that part of my brain (that I was choosing to ignore), lit up. “Hmmm….I wonder if I can make tortillas” or “I bet you I could make hamburger rolls,” became common thoughts that infiltrated my brain. It was like a switch turned on abruptly. I had no interest in doing these things before, but I find that when women/mothers go into survival mode (say, a pandemic occurring), they’ll stop at nothing to protect their families.
The Main Culprit
Growing up, I was never a great cook. My top offense was that I religiously neglected any inkling of portion control. If I would make meatloaf, I’d make four pounds of it (for two people). While making the few basic meals I knew, I’d feel stressed, overwhelmed, irritable, incredibly critical, etc. Cooking was never fun for me.
When my daughter was born, I had to switch to dairy-free products. So around that time, my husband and I saw an ad for Green Chef. One of their diet options was Paleo, so we decided to try it. Let me tell you. When I first started making the meals, I felt like I was in way over my head. If I thought I was stressed and overwhelmed before, this was next-level.
I kept with it though and as time went on, I started to get better with my time management and organizational skills, temperature gauging, plating, and the ability to stop setting off all the smoke detectors in our house. I really began to enjoy it too. I began taking pride in both the taste and the presentation of my dishes, and I fell in love with the end results (which included compliments). It became a whole new experience for me.
A Confident Cook
Now, as I continue working on my cooking skills, I’m starting to make other kinds of non-Green Chef items too, which allows me to experiment with new seasonings, different techniques, etc. Even as I sit here typing this I’m wondering if there’s an easy way to make my own barbeque sauce or almond milk from scratch. Who is this person?
*I recommend these recipes – tortillas (tip – make sure to roll them out very thin) & hamburger buns (tip – let the dough rise for 20 minutes). Looking to try Green Chef? Use my referral link to get $55 off your first order! (Note: I also receive $25 towards my next box, no cost to you!)
